Community Groups and Public Support

Earth Hour is a symbolic event to show our collective effort and support for the planet. just the start of a series of positive changes you can make for the Earth. We believe that harnessing the power of community groups can create greater impacts on our natural world. This year, we engage community groups that will play a major role in making Earth Hour the biggest grassroots movement to inspire others to act and advocate for protecting the habitats and combat against climate crisis.

This year, get creative and let us know what sustainability actions in which your community group or school is engaging – before, during or after the Earth Hour event! Your work will help create ripple effects that influence more people and help us promote a sustainable lifestyle across society!

In addition to switching-off lights, there is much more you can do to go beyond the hour! Download this PDF for checklist of items to see what your group can do to protect habitats. You are welcome and encouraged to sign the pledge, and share with us photos your organisation or school took while supporting Earth Hour on or before 15 April, and then receive an e-certificate of recognition on or before 30 April.

To drive bigger impact and stronger awareness across our community, we have partnered with various organisations to encourage everyone to adapt sustainable living habits to safeguard the natural environment. These actions include:

  • Our partnership with St. James’ Settlement Green Social Enterprise – Green Ladies and Green Little, to encourage everyone to donate and extend the life of the second hand or unwanted clothes, promoting sustainable fashion;
  • We will also work with Food Angel to prepare meals for the people in need at their Sham Shui Po centre. The main course of the meal is mullet fish, a typical freshwater fish that was sourced from the fishponds operated by Yeungs Marine Products near Mai Po;
  • To encourage green transport, we are also partnering with RWA Cycling Foundation and chose a cycling route within Northern Metropolis.
