Using humour as a tool for addressing serious issues such as climate change can be tricky at times, yet comedy no doubt has the power to connect with people effectively. Are you up for a belly laugh before the Earth Hour Lights-off Ceremony?
In this exclusive 30-minute standup set, Hong Kong’s very own standup comedian Tim Chan will explore the complexities of environmental happenings with a mere microphone. To make the performance less dry and more palatable, he will also deliver a special improv comedy which needs to get the audience involved for the act.
Tim has performed more than 1,000 gigs over the last decade, including taking his Cantonese standup comedy to more than 15 places such as the United Kingdom and Australia in 2024.
As the creative hub for ceramic art in Hong Kong, St. James’ Creation (SJC) has actively participated in more than 100 local and overseas exhibitions for over 25 years, connecting the public through community art, bringing inspiration and empowerment.
In order to raise the public awareness of Earth Hour, two ceramists from SJC, Lau Sze O and Hung Ming Him, have employed hand-building techniques to create three sets of animal sculptures inspired from four remarkable species. During the creating process, Sze O emphasised the patterned carapace of the Golden Coin Turtle’s figurine, while Ming Him was good at carving the intricate details, such as the curling feathers of Dalmatian Pelican. Both of them have also co-created a sculpture featuring Chevron Butterflyfish and Staghorn Corals together, which helps the public to understand more about the nature.
In addition, the art creation from the ’MusiCLAY’ project, which blends ceramic art with music, will also be showcased at the Earth Hour Carnival. It allows participants to engage with art in a dynamically interactive way, thereby reawaken and activate every sense through such unprecedented ’Play Music, Play Clay’ experience.
Through the community repair services and public education, Repair Café HK encourages the idea of fixing defective items instead of just throwing them away. It is also a good way to promote sustainable lifestyle.
A pop-up repair station can be found in Earth Hour Carnival on 22 March, where the participants can experience the repairing process with skilled volunteers, give the old items a second life and establish a special connection with the defective products.
Let's rethink our lifestyle together, reduce waste and make restoration an option in life.
At 8:30 p.m. on 28 March, join millions across the globe in a powerful, symbolic moment of darkness. Wherever you are, we invite every citizen of Hong Kong to switch off and speak up. Use this hour to unplug, reflect, and commit to a 'nature-positive' future. Let the spirit of Earth Hour live on long after the lights come back on—as we push ourselves to go further and do more for our planet, every single day.
